A Course in Miracles: Obama Creates Poverty, Not Jobs!

There is no sense arguing as to whether President Obama is arrogant vs. stubborn. They are practically the same. President Obama steadfastly refuses to learn the lessons of history, vowing to "fight on" by repeating all the mistakes Franklin Roosevelt made in pushing America deeper and deeper into economic depression.

The problem: Obama simply will not relinquish his worship of government economic "solutions."

But there is no such thing as a government economic solution. Government can (and does) create poverty, but government cannot bring about prosperity. Only free people with voluntary decisions and efforts in free markets can build prosperity. Government can only interfere with people's freedom of choice, whether it be via taxation, regulation, or misguided programs in the name of "redistribution of wealth."

"But wait a minute! If it wasn't for government, dishonest business people would amass fortunes on the backs of the poor."

Such a Marxist fantasy sure does elicit sympathy for "the poor," doesn't it? But remember only government interference can create involuntary poverty. In a market free of government interference, except for very brief "correction periods," there are always more jobs available than people willing to work. So people can easily switch jobs if their employers do not serve them. Voluntary employment is, after all, voluntary.

"But what about employers who are dishonest?"

Yes, it is government's job to defend us against dishonest business people just as much as to defend us against criminals and foreign threats. Defense is, in fact, the only proper function of government: to attempt to restore justice and peace when there has been any initiation of force, threat of force, theft, fraud, or breach of contract.

With respect to business people, government cannot force honesty and integrity before the fact, but government's job is to create an infrastructure of legal conditions which make it extremely difficult for dishonorable people to operate in a free market.

Obama is doing exactly the opposite. He and his Democrat allies act as if they harbor a secret belief that all business people are dishonorable, so they have to make it harder than hell for anyone to produce wealth and economic prosperity. Call it the "anti-capitalist mentality," and let yourself see that it can lead only to more stagnation and eventual poverty.
